Run the River Tay Way Ultra!

Ladies get ready to run the beautiful River Tay Way Ultra and experience the best Perthshire has to offer! Scotland’s newest “way” was completed and opened in 2025 and is a fully waymarked route going from Loch Tay to Perth.

According to the SheRACES website whilst women make up half of runners globally, “we make up less than 20% of starters at longer races – just 16% at ultramarathons in 2018. And less than 8% at the prestigious Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB).”

At Wee Run Events we took a look at our stats and we used to be approx 50/50 split between Men and Women runners (pre pandemic) but now we’ve dropped to 31% women (Ochil Ultra) and as low as 21% (other events.)

We also had a drop in our NB runners over 2025. So, we asked ourselves – what could we do to reach these runners? The answer; a safe ultramarathon that’s not for Men so you get to enjoy a great race where you are included and the main focus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about our event.

The River Tay Way Ultra is a female-only ultramarathon that follows the beautiful River Tay Way in Perthshire. This is a 75km Ultra starting at Loch Tay and ending at Scone Palace (or Perth Fitness Studios TBC)

This ultra is 7k on Road, 15+k on tarmac path and around 50k on trail.

All female, femme-presenting, trans men, and non-binary runners are welcome to join this inclusive event. You can run as the gender of your choice.

We welcome ALL female and NB runners, from ALL backgrounds. We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly event – in fact we’re friendly FULL STOP! You can run as F, NB or Trans Man (TM) and we welcome you to sign up and run as the gender of your choice.

We realise that including trans men might sound like we’re grouping them under an umbrella of “female” which we aren’t. But, we do understand that many of the barriers to running (especially long distances) are the same for trans men as they are for women.

Trans men will have grown up without male privilege in many cases (yes I am saying being able to run whenever you like day or night and not be in fear of being attacked is a privilege). And some could argue that they pass through the world perceived as male post transition – almost invisible to the support/help that is women-centred.

We wanted to make this event as inclusive as possible to fill that gap.

Yes, we encourage novice endurance runners to participate in our supportive and welcoming environment.

We can put you in touch with experienced running coaches that can help you with your running plan. With the right training plan, and enough time you can do this ultra distance event.

The route is fully waymarked, ensuring easy navigation as you enjoy the scenic views along the River Tay.

You can view information about the River Tay Way here

View the route here NB if we finish at Scone Palace we’ll take you over the Destiny Bridge and if we finish at Perth Fitness Studio, Inveralmond, you’ll finish earlier than the Inch in Perth.

We would love this to be an annual event but we plan to start it as a bi-annual event. So we’ll do River Tay Way Ultra every other year – 2026, 2028 and so on.

Defferals will be put onto the 2028 start list.
